Short History

The first export of coffee was in the 1855/1856 coffee year when 693 bags were shipped. Until the early 30`s coffee exports were mainly destined to Europe, however, the USA became the main destination during world war II, when 84% of coffee headed to US ports.

From 1950-1970 widespread modernization of technology took place, new varieties such as bourbon were introduced, and a Coffee Research institution was created. These factors, along with two decades of political stability, made the country the most productive in the world, enjoying a respectful image for its quality.
