The largest of all Batres Farms Estates, Monterey and El Tempisque are both 100 % Bourbon Plantations located in the Tacuba Area near the El Imposible National Park a protected natural forest which is the refuge of more than 500 species of butterflies, almost 300 species of birds and 30 species of mammals some of which are in danger of becoming extinct. The Impossible is one of the most important natural reservoirs not only of El Salvador but of Mesoamerica. The combination of red volcanic soil and near perfect coffee-growing climate of Monterey and El Tempisque produce a coffee with a warm exotic fruitiness overlaying a rich acidity. To improve yields, El Tempisque was replanted from 1999 to 2001 with 120,000 new Tekisic coffee trees, Tekisic is a 100% Bourbon variety resistant to the "Roya" disease developed by the Institute of Salvadorian Coffee Research ( ISIC). Considering current high demand for Organic Coffee, Monterey Estate has been certified by Mayacert / BCS Oko Guaranty as in the 1st year of transition to Organic Coffee Production ( T1) since 2003.
