The newest Batres Farms, Altamira and El Madriado Estates where acquired by the Batres Giammattei family in September 2002 and December 2001 respectively. Altamira is a 100% Bourbon plantation located right next to the famous Santa Rita Estate of Jose A. Salaverría at an altitude ranging from 1,325 to 1,450 meters above sea level. El Madriado Estate is only 250 meters apart from Altamira and was replanted with Pacamara-The Kenya of Central America in June of 2002. The cool climate and the red volcanic soil of these plantations near the top of the Apaneca mountain combine to produce large bold beans with a warm exotic fruitiness overlaying a crystal clear rich acidity. Fed by generous tropical rains and nurtured by a rare and ancient Mayan soil , the mild coffees of Altamira and El Madriado Estates boast a fragrant aroma and pleasant aftertaste.
